I have recently downloaded mIRC and I'm trying to go to irc.freenode.net
Whenever I try, it disconnects me and says that my identd isn't responding.
I know that I need to configure my firewall. I found a step by step way to do it.
But I don't know where I need to go to configure it. I have Comcast High-Speed internet. I don't have a router. I have Windows XP.

Could you help me with my firewall problem?

I'm using Win2K and a LinkSys router/hub for AT&T Cable. When I try to log into a server, it says "unable to connect to firewall". For some reason I just can't get past the firewall. Will mIRC do that? I know the IP the wall is using and the username/password to get into it to configure it. I just can't get mIRC to go through. Any ideas?

The majority of home firewall users need to keep mIRC's firewall option set to none. no, that doesnt mean the firewall isnt still working, it just means the firewall type isnt socks4, socks5, proxy type firewalls. If yours is, try this web page . Fill in the hostname/userid/password in mIRC's firewall options.

i cant help but wonder if the ip/password you are referring to is to tweak settings at your ip level rather than the type of firewall i refered to above.

Argh! No! I already know all of that stuff. I can't find my active network connection. I tried calling Comcast and they said that they don't put an icon thing for the network connection or anything.

For starters, my reply wasnt to you, note the "re:crusher75060"

If you are asking how to enable port 113 for identd in xp's firewall, this web page will take you step by step from finding network connection onwards. (which is the same url that HOBB1T posted to you already). If the prob is in a setting that comcast has that they allow you to web or telnet into to tweak, then they would have to tell you the addy/password to access it
