Hello,

I use DCC a lot to send and recv files. I moved to a new town, have a new router and ISP but same computer. I used to goto a IRC room, download a file via DCC and go afk, come back its done.

NOW, every 1 to 3 minutes the DCC looses connection and I have to resend the request. I have no clue why it would work, for a solid 3 minutes and time out while its still downloading at 300kb/s. It just stops. It also does this on every netowrk I use.

Thank you in advance.

Ok, if it is the router, what ports do I open? I read its 113, so I opened 113, then I read some other ports, so I opened thouse.

If it is my ISP, then why would it drop me from IRC?

Which router - manufacturer and model number? It's not ports if you can start transferring a file.

If your ports weren't open, then the DCC SEND would fail to even start, not die after a few minutes. You don't need to open ports to receive files, unless the sender is someone using passive-dcc-send.

I'm not arguing about the site (it's a great resource), but 1) you don't have to configure anything to receive files via DCC and 2) if the file transfer starts there's nothing wrong with the port setup.

There are a few causes of file transfers starting and then dying.

I have had a simular problem with my mirc. When I log on to a network I am unable to connect with some users. I have tried to change my port settings but I have had no luck with it. I had to let the end users fend for themselfs. At one time I thought it was because Dns unable to resolve a connection with the nick who requested a file. I finnally came to the conclussion it was with the network connection between me and the other user that was blocking the connection.

Try this next time you try to send or recieve a file and it times out try a DNS on that nick and see if you get the same problem "Dns unable to resolve"

I dont think that would do it somehow.

When u send a file to someone you dont need to dns resolve them at all, so i would have to assume this was just a incertdential occurance.

When you send a file, u send a ctcp message across the irc server to the reciver of the file, this message contains DCC SEND <filename> <yourip> <port2use> <filesize>
From there the reciver creates the direct client to client connection and you send the file down it.
