I agree, this can be quite annoying, its only a cosmetic thing but still you can end up with a huge and ugly popup menu because of it. you should have to specify the seperator for it to be placed.

Perhaps a switch to remove those separators. I say a switch to remove to maintain backwards compatablility. Like:

menu -s channel {
blah
.blah:
}
