It is possible that the server is waiting on an identd response.

Use this command: /identd on <username>

Keep the username to alpha-numeric text with no special characters. Also, make sure port 113 is correctly forwarded if you are behind a router and that any firewalls you might have are instructed to open it.

Another option is to try another port. 6667 is pretty common. Most IRC servers use a range from 6667 to 6669 and 7000. Try another port.

What about the identd port? Have you forwarded it from your router if you need to? Have you made sure it isn't restricted by any firewalls?

Unless the identd server can communicate through its port, it isn't going work.

As a note, the identd port should be 113 and not changed as most networks don't support other ports. Waiting for identd response usually takes 1-2 minutes before it either kicks you for no response, or it lets you join.

Now... if you were meaning that you keep getting that set of lines repeated over and over for "20 minutes", then try a specific server rather than the hub server.

Example:
/server irc.dal.net (that's a hub ... irc.*.* and us.*.* and eu.*.* are hubs)
/server jade.va.us.dal.net (that's a specific server)

Once you connect using the hub method, look to see what server is said it connected to. Then, always connect to that specific server.
