Is it possible to completely hide a version reply from the requester? Or ignore a version request? Something that will keep people from finding out that I'm using mirc.

We do not help with hiding or changing the version reply, it's considered very lame, some channels will even ban you for it.

The only legitimate way would be to use /ignore -t *, however, that ignores all CTCPs from all users - including ping/time/etc requests.

I don't think I've ever seen someone with a true need to hide the version reply anyway!

I've never met anyone with a true need to use colors or text formatting either, that doesn't stop them from doing so or from it being easily accessed functions in mirc. I'll suppose I'll just have to ask somewhere else where fear of "lameness" isn't so pronounced. Thanks anyway.

However, colour formatting isn't forbidden in mIRC. mIRC specifically states in its help file:

"Note: You can't prevent the standard version reply from being sent." (See /help CTCP Events)

You make a forum that denounces being lame sound like a bad thing...I apologise for the fact we'd rather not have lamers on IRC smirk

My friend claims to have been able to put in his own version reply with just script, but I don't believe him, and he's never given it to me, only to other people, who too say it's script only, so I hate them all now heh.

I myself use a dll my friend wrote.

It is possible to do it with plain script, though we do not help with that here. You're not going to get further assistance on this matter on these boards.

lol, stop torchering the guy, just let him think his mates lying, he would be upset if he found out how small a script can do it.

You cannot change mIRC's version reply. But, you can add another reply (like if you write a script and want the reply attached with the script with information like a website for new versions).

To add another version reply:

ctcp *:version*:*:{ ctcpreply $nick version This is my script v1.0 }

That will then display mIRC's version reply followed by your own version reply.

He didnt say he wants to change it, he said he wants to hide it or block it, so people dont know what hes using, a legit reason for this, might be due to scripts that he uses that dont run on newer version of mirc, he is stuck using a version with an exploit, so to hide that fact he wants to block the version reply.

He simply needs to use /ignore -t on the person making the version request.

In comment to the help manual saying "Note: You can't prevent the standard version reply from being sent." I dont beleive what i say contidicts this, as that version replies are always sent if a version request makes it to mircs internal event handlers, if u have ignored the nick, then it doesnt, just the same as any matching /ignore ignores the incoming message.
