New to mIRC. Getting "You need voice (+v) (#channel)" message.

OK dumb question but how do I get voice. Nothing in help or your search engine mentions this.

Ok the ones who can voice you are the operators(those who have a @ infront of their nicks) so you need to ask to one of them to voice you but that would probably get you banned coz in most channels asking/begging for voice is not allowed by the channel rules and results a kick/ban.
You recived this msg by who?

FunChatter - You asked:

You recived this msg by who?

No name or ID given. There are 5 listed with @ in front of their name.

If asking for voice could get me kicked or isn't allowed, why was I asked?

they probably don't just want anyone in their channel. if you don't know someone, chances are you're not going to get in. what is the channel?

Some channels are set moderated, so that only @ and +v can "speak" in the channel. If it is, then when you try to post you will see the notice saying so. Basically, if the ops in that channel want to allow you to speak, they will give you voice (+v) asking them to would be pretty much a waste of time.

If you're new to IRC and mIRC, it might be an idea to look in your channel folder and pick a channel that you like the sound of. Some admin/services channels operate on a +v basis, which isn't really conducive to a good chat - but those kind of channels aren't really for chatting in anyway. Shop around, there are some friendly channels out there, it's just a matter of having a wander and finding them grin

Never compare yourself to others - they're more screwed up than you think.

Good advice Poppy smile

buzz, you can also try getting a list of channels on a specific topic by typing /list *somewordhere* like maybe channels in your area, or about an interest you have. for example:
/list *chat*
/list *texas*
/list *racing*

A window will open with the list when its done, and you can try joining some of the ones you see. As Poppy said, it just takes time and wandering to find a channel you are comfy in
