how do you turn off text in the channel window? is it possible?

Turn off text? Why on Earth would you want to do that in a chat program? *shrugs* - You can ignore all text by using /ignore -c * which ignores all channel messages from everyone.

For a specific channel, you may want to use this:

ON ^*:TEXT:*:#channel-name:/halt
