You probably did something wrong in your config file.
Check if your bot connects to a port (listen 3333 is the default).
If you already have a port set, then try to let the bot invite you for a dcc chat. This is done by CTCPing a chat request (cmd: /ctcp <botnick> chat). Keep in mind that when you use this option, you also have to give your handle to the bot (nick you used when you issued the hello command).
