user interface enrichment has been discussed at great lengths in the past. Everything from emote icon smilies to personal avatars (nicklist icons) has been debated.

By all means, you may open another thread on this topic, but I am afraid you will simply come to these two main conclusions.

[*] 1. Users of mIRC don't want to see it bloated down with useless eyecandy that distracts from it being an IRC client. mIRC has gotten noticably slower over the years, and primarily where display (user interface) is concerned.
[*] 2. Users will finally argue that, if such features are ever added, that they better be disabled by default. I think the main reason for this, is mIRC users don't want to see it become another Instant Messaging client like AOL or ICQ or MSN. We are quite happy with its simple and plain look. It grows on us.
