FTP is an especially effecient protocol for the sending and receiving of files over the internet.
mIRC's DCC protocol is... not. FTP transfers are usually 1/3rd faster and is the ideal option for large files. Most FTP clients (
www.flashfxp.com) allow you to queue multiple files, and even entire directories for download. If the download is interrupted, these clients will automaticly reconnect and resume the download. ... mIRC will not.
