Have tried to find updates for my graphics driver (I'm
very unsure of anything remotely technical when it comes to PCs) and it looks like the ones for my particular driver (ATI Radeon Xpress 1250) have been moved to something called
legacy support? I don't want to be downloading the wrong things if it creates more problems so now I know roughly what was causing the issue I think I'll leave it at that.
