What Khaled said was that allowing access to devices *in general* can cause freezes/instabilities. I don't think he specifically said allowing NUL anywhere outside filter would cause any issues, and I'd bet NUL is a specific device that should not lead to any freezes/instabilities with any commands, so it could always be exempted globally. This is all pending tests, of course, which could be easily done.
