I just downloaded it and took a look.
He is using Tahoma (which is still not a fixed width font)
He's made his own alias to align it, which looks quite complicated i think. Using $widths $calcs and $ints.
Sorry i can't help any further with it.
Personally i'd stick to a fixed width font using the code i pasted previously, much easier
