Using Collective's code simply doesn't work on 7.06

Richedit in dialogs hasn't worked since the first 7.x beta, I believe. It's been disabled and I forget why exactly. So it's on purpose and not really a bug, but it would be nice to have it enabled again even though I've never had need of it. Anything "fancy" that I want to make requires more than what I can do with that, so those things I just use DCX for anyhow.

I think nothing has been said about this so I wonder how you could possibly be aware, and dcx is fine, but richedit control aren't working correctly.

Ok, maybe I misread it. I could have sworn that I'd seen that, but all I can find in forum searches and searching the versions.txt file is that it's disabled for Wine as of 7.02. Still, I was certain I'd seen that it was disabled altogether, but I can't figure out where I saw that. Maybe I'm imagining things. laugh

But I do know that it hasn't worked since either the first 7.x beta or one of the first. There was a change in the richedit version being used and maybe that was the cause, but from the versions.txt file, we're using the original version again, so that shouldn't be a problem now if that was the case. So I'm not sure.

The "rich" property was originally added to allow an arbitrary limit on the amount of text (see versions.txt) when used in combination with the "limit" property. It was not actually related to the use of RTF text.

When I added the "rich" property, I enabled an editbox setting that allowed only plain text to be used and not RTF text. Unfortunately the setting was not applied correctly. This allowed scripters to use RTF text.

To add to the confusion, the Unicode version of the richedit editbox only interprets RTF text if it is in ANSI single-byte UTF-8 format.

So, in order to maintain backwards compatibility with an unintentional feature caused by a subtle bug in code that was added to support an altogether different feature, I will have to make some rather tricky changes :-)

This is on my to-do list but it is not a priority at this time.
