Hi,

it would be nice to have an auto-update feature in new releases so people could be upgrade automaticaly when there's a fix. Lots of people are still crashing because of the old mIRC 6.x versions.

There is a link to a mailing list on the left of this forum, mirc.com and mirc.co.uk. Sign up and you will be notified of updates as soon as they are released. smile

I don't see why anyone would object to a "check for updates" button, with optional immediate download or a link to a "More Info" page (i.e. at mirc.com). This is common with a great deal of software nowadays.

One could even have this feature enabled only for registered copies of mIRC, since some people have complained that they don't get any "extras" after paying...

I wouldent call them lazy, im on the old mirc version, and the reason for that is cos i dont like the look of the new one.. so dont call people lazy or anything else befor you know for fact thats the reason..

It is their repsponsibility to keep up. There's a mailing klist which informs people of updates, and if people don't wanna subscribe to that they should check the site occasionally.

That said, A "check for update" button wouldn't be all that bad, as long as the default is OFF. I don't like progranms auto-downloading stuff without getting authorization from the user first.

That wasn't so smart - 6.x versions other than 6.12 have a serious security flaw. And yes, I know about the ignore fix, but it is always better to fix the problem than to hide the symptoms.

how you feel u have the right to judge anothers intellect is beyond me, seeing as i dont dcc atall and i ignore them altogether, along with the fact ive also got an ignore fix of my own. you have absolutly no right to come on here saying what is and isnt smart, in my opinion 6.03 was far better than 6.x mirc. did i call u stupid even once for upgrading? I dont think i ever have, nor will i. so dont ever post anyone about thier lack of intellect because they choose NOT to upgrade. That make you more ignorant than the person not upgrading by choice.

I personally dont like any software doing an auto update, i like to make that choice myself.

In response to other posts, in mIRC clicking on Help and then on "latest news" will take you to mirc.com where new releases are announced. Signing up on the mailing list to be notifed of new releases is about as easy as it gets. New releases are also announced here and in the topics of #mIRC on various networks.

Are you going to be paying for the excessive bandwidth eaten from the thousands of users whom's mirc check the website for an update everytime it loads? Or even perhaps a daily check if its been running nonstop?

Though it may be conveneiec,e it sure isn't worth the expense.

I don't judge people. It's common knowledge that one should never knowingly continue using a flawed version of a program. Secondly, hiding the symptoms is ALWAYS worse then fixing the problem. Stop calling other people names when they are merely responding to your questions. Furthermore, doing things that are not smart have nothing at all to do with intellect or stupidity, so stuff a sock in it.

6.12 has flaws and you knowingly use it.

But there is currently no better alternative, where as 6.0x, there is. I'm not taking sides, just stating the facts.

if u define better with still having bugs yes id agree , but really your right this shouldnt have ever turned into a debate about intellect. I just personally prefer 6.03,and seeing as i dont hang around in dcc channels i feel pretty safe using it, as ive never once been exploited or even attempted to be, if thats the only draw back of keeping with 6.03, i feel safe in takin my chances, now if and when the new series of mirc 6.1x has appropriate changes made that i will surely be using that. again this is all just my personal preference.
