Hi!

According to the versions.txt, mIRC supports the IRCv3 typing client tag:

Quote
15.Added support for IRCv3 typing client tag. When typing in a query
or channel window, mIRC can now send typing notifications to let
other users know that you are typing. mIRC can also receive typing
notifications from other users and will display a typing indicator
in the query and channel titlebars. This feature can be turned on
or off in the IRC/Options dialog.

Can someone tell me how to turn this on?

I have found the option "Send typing notifications" under Tools => Options => IRC => Options => Other.

But my friend and I have both enabled it and and we still do not see any typing indicator from each other.
So is that something else that needs to be turned on, and what?

This feature depends on the IRC server and whether it supports the IRCv3 "message-tags" token. You can see if a server supports this token in the CAP message that appears when you first connect to it. Most of the major IRC networks do not support message-tags unfortunately.

Ah, thanks for the explanation. That makes sense!

Is there any way to find out which free-to-use servers support the "message-tags" token?

When connecting to a server, before the "Welcome" server message is displayed, you may see a "CAP available" message. This indicates that the server supports IRCv3 features. If one of the listed features in "CAP available" is "message-tags", this means that typing notifications are supported.
