depends on what network you go...
some networks ALLOWS hiding ip IF you are registered
by doing /mode yournick +x
i know this networks that enables this options:
QuakeNet, PTnet, Undernet
there maybe others also...
BUT in most cases you need BNC and that costs, proxy can do the trick but you will be mostly banned from network, WinGate can do the trick but you will be again banned from network IF they scan you for insecury proxy and wingates.
