new to most of mirc tried to join a channel and was refused in the server connect box it told me i need to have a registered nick to join the channel how do i register my nick?

Normally the command is /msg nickserv register, but it varies from network to network. Try /msg nickserv help register and see if it works.

/NickServ register yourpasswordhere emailaddresshere

That isn't the same on all servers (not even all servers with NickServ have that syntax for register), which is why I told him to use the help command. Teaches him more too.

If /nickserv is supported it is a more secure method though. Best to try it first, I think.:)

You're right. It depends on the network. There are many different ways to register a nickname, as well as different channel services. I was going for a long shot assuming that the command syntax I provided would be correct. I do now realize that my reply wasn't at all necessary. All I got to say is: My Bad!
