I have used IRC for about 4 years now, but now that I have my own website I want to set up a server so that my friends and I can have our own private server. I have no idea how to do this, but from Google I learned that I might need something called an IRC daemon. Are there any suggestions about what is the best IRCd to use (this is a windows 2000 machine) and any other useful information?

Thanks a lot =)

I don't think there are that many irc servers that run on Windows. You could try Unreal.

Unreal IRCd comes in a Windows flavour, partly why it's very popular, it's one of the few IRCds that does.

IRCds that run on Windows are wIRCds - a lot can be obtained from wircds.net and searching Google for 'wircd'.

Thanks to all. What if I were to want to run an IRCd on an OS X machine? What program could I use then?
