hi everyone, hope someone can help me out with this.

i am not that new to mIRC, i was using it through a script from a website before, and everytime i logged on it would let me choose the servers and join efnet.
the script was with the program when i downloaded it, so whenever i connected i would be taken to the channel i wanted and able to chat.

now, i am trying to get through to a different channel, so i installed mIRC and i loaded the .ini script into it, so i don't think that's the problem.
the problem is that i generally can't or don't know how to connect. my internet connection is working perfectly fine.
usually when i signed through the first program i used, it would bring up the connect box (of which it still does) and i would only have to enter my nickname, all of the rest of the info was there, and i could choose one of the efnet servers, or any server for that matter. the drag and drop menu had hundreds of them.

now, i can enter my name, email address, and such with no problem, but when i try to connect to a server, it just says "All", and there is no list of servers I can join that i can search through.

so, i pressed "connect to IRC server" and nothing happens, it just takes me to the Status box and nothing shows up.

i didn't find anything in the FAQ regarding my problem, it seems everything just walks around connections, i have no idea how to do it at all. i'm wondering what i'm doing wrong, or if it's just very obvious and i can't do it.

i am wondering if i didn't install the script right or something, since there is usually a list of possible servers to connect to. i loaded it right, by pressing alt + r.

if someone could point me to another message or a link or something in the FAQ i missed, i would greatly appreciate it.
i'm sorry if this question is dumb, i just don't understand this type of thing at all! wink

i think, in short, i just need to know how to connect to an EFnet server, i found an FAQ on the site that will help me from there, but it doesnt explain anything about HOW to connect to one.

i'm sorry if the message was kind of vague, since i don't know how to explain all of it, but if you need more information, i'd be happy to give it.

thanks so much!

Information on installing and setting mIRC up and getting connected can be found on the How To Install page. It seems like you haven't for the mIRC servers.ini - you can get that from here - save it to your mIRC directory and it will be loaded into mIRC automagically. Information on finding a channel can be found in this post.

You can always connect to EFnet through the command line. Simply enter your connection details and then type /server irc.efnet.net in mIRC. That should successfully connect you.

We cannot help you with individual scripts - you should only be obtaining mIRC from this website, not downloading it with scripts from other websites. I suggest you get rid of your script files and install a fresh mIRC - only from the official download page.

Both work, however, efnet.net is (last I heard) the 'official' server pool due to DDoS attacks that took place April 2003. Mailing lists and so forth were also moved to that domain. Whether they have been moved back to efnet.org I do not know.
