don' t really know why this happens but when mirc is my active application and i press ctrl+alt+del and then close this dialog, mirc won' t let me click on a channel' s button, so i tried minimizing it and when i tried to restore its window a small dialog poped up asking me to give a password to unlock it in order to continue... (as if the lock feature was enabled, but it wasn' t). why is this happening? i' ve encountered that error with previous versions of mirc too (i now use 6.16 on win98 SE)

That doesn't happen here with XP Home, 6.16 - the channel windows thing or the password-requesting dialog. Double check that you don't have it enabled. Also make sure you're not doing CTRL+minimise.

mentality i' ve never used the lock option and i always check it when this happens to see if it is enabled... also i' m using a plain mirc, no scripts loaded, so there is no possibility a script to have caused it... frown maybe it' s that RAM prob already mentioned, haven' t checked my RAM when this happens...
