I have searched for this problem and still can't find any related help. Is it something I have to set up in my options in Mirc or do I have to type something in the mirc chat window in order to get a file?? Please help, I know you have all prolly heard this one before, but I really can't find my problem in the search field and If I do, I apologize for asking.

That message occurs when you try and message someone, or a channel, or sometimes when you /whois someone and they simply do not exist (or the user is not connected at that time). It's like talking to someone through the telephone, then they put the phone down and you still trying to talk to them. Although they still exist, the phone isn't connected to theirs and so you can't talk with each other.

Be aware that mIRC is not a file trading program like other 'peer 2 peer' programs out there. It's a chat program, so sorry if you've been told or heard otherwise and thought you could get mp3s/movies/whatever from IRC. We do not help with that as it's illegal if that's what you were intending.

If you're attempting a DCC Send/Get connection from someone make sure you're typing their nickname exactly. If you were sending me a picture you must use /dcc send mentality NOT /dcc send Ment or another variation of my nickname.

We seem to have went from the No such nick error, to the possibilty that you are blocking a certain type of file from being received, If it is the latter this may help

I believe you might find you are blocking certain filetypes from being received. To temporarily stop the type being blocked you can type in any open window
/dcc ignore off
by Default the ignore should turn back on in 3 minutes, this solution is temporary.
For a permanent fix, you go into your mIRC options, normally accessible by holding down the ALT-key and pressing O-key (letter O) and in the Section called DCC look for a subsection titled Ignore, you can make permanent changes in there

As an added note, you may also find the Can't DCC Send thread (for when you're sending) helpful, and this page for some common issues when receiving a file.

If you have received in the past but can't now, and the above suggestions don't work, then the chances are it's the sender's problem. It usually is in a transfer, as you need to connect to THEM in order to get the file, therefore, if they have ports blocked a connection may not be possible so the DCC fails.

Try sending your friend that's sending you the file to the 'Can't DCC Send' thread and see if those suggestions help him.
