my personal thoughts... we should be allowed access to ALL types of dialog controls, while mIRC has a great selection already of dialog controls we can use, it doesnt have them all, which leaves us to goto dlls(and the one that performs the best is in beta) i think it would be easier all around to be able to use all the different styles of dialog controls straight from mIRC

Been suggested many times, but i agree, i think he should add listviews that support icons, treeviews, progress bars, trackbars, and maybe a few others.

whats gonna be funny is that if he does, I'm sure the same people that 'dont get mdx'(they dont read the help) arent going to 'get this' because they refuse to read mirc's help.

I thought about that too, but even a simple listbox (no icons, columns, etc) is a lot more complicated in mdx than it is in mIRC standard dialogs.
I would think khaled would make it nice and easy like the rest of the dialog controls.

mdx doesnt create a standard listbox. The common controls are very difficult to 'get' for some people mainly because theres a lot to them. Anyone who's used mdx will know at least a little about the icons (normal overlay and state) for listviews. background colors/images etc..

mIRC really only has two choices.

A. Limit the usage of the control so its easier to 'get' and fits easier within mIRC's scripting model. or

B. Be just as 'complicated' as mdx is.

Personally i love the idea of adding the cc's but not if they will be some limited striped down less than attractive version.

It doesn't create a standard listbox, but you can use it to create a listview to the same effect as a listbox.

thats true however why would you? It seems it makes less sense to use more steps to create a control you can easily do with less work. Not to mention 2 less dll's loaded (mdx.dll and views.mdx)

The point was, it would be easy to make extra controls that require less code than MDX to work.

Not really. The only point you made was that it takes more work to configure a complex dialog control to behave like a simple dialog control than to just use the simple dialog control.

I don't use MDX so I don't have a clue how easy it is to use, I wouldn't be surprised if having the controls it supports native to mIRC would make them a little simpler to use. But they'll still be more *difficult* to use than the currently supported controls simply because they're more complex by their very nature.

Spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, and stupid comments are intentional.
