Will a later version of mIRC have more colors (than the 16) to use in chat windows?

Khaled very rarely says what he has in mind for future versions or when things he has in mind may near the top of his to-do list. More colors has been requested often. To see what others have to say about it, use our search feature. For the best results set it to "all forums" and "all dates", try using colors as your search term (or colour).
Just in case you arent aware of it, you can tweak your default colors. In the colors dialog (alt k) right click on any color you would like to change, then click on "define custom color"

i think instead of adding more colors, just making everything RGB customizable is the best option.

Oh, but if I change a color it will only be me who sees the difference. My chat-friends stills sees the default color. That what I ment with more colors for mIRC

ah i see. i never realized this. doh. My chat-friends stills sees the default color. That what I ment with more colors for mIRC the only way for your 'chat-friends' to see other colors, is to press control+k when youre typing, and choose a color.

I know. We have only the default 16 colors to chose from. If I chose a green color on red the viewers will still see red. Se my mIRC colors suggestion thread and then you will understand what I'm talking about

I'm not sure I understand completely. Do you mean green text with a red background? That can be done by pressing control+k 3,4hello, friend or in code form, put this into your editbox:

i understood what you were asking (which has been suggested before), my comment about how you can define the colors you see was just a little FYI. Your friends will of course see the color based on what they have set for that number. Thats exactly why i love that feature.... i eliminated the horrid yellow, green, and orange so ppl can use them all they want and i dont have to see them

If my 54 colors suggestion would become default colors for mIRC you'd still be able to overwrite them

Thought: 85% of channels I've ever gone to on IRC either don't allow colour, period, or don't allow excessive colours. Allowing 50+ colours by default for mIRC would open way for, in my opinion, even more annoying colour popups and the possibility of worse "colour floods". I mean there is a particular script I can think of which has an away system with all 16 current colour codes, let alone 54 colours. Then again as raccoon pointed out elsewhere, it would only be different shades of the same colours rather than different colours altogether - still.... I'm sort of on the fence for this I guess - it could be nice, but it could be bad in many ways (as most new features are I guess). And it's not like scripts still wouldn't be able to detect excessive colours, and a lot of places have the +c (no colour) cmode. *shrugs* Regards,
Mentality/Chris

And still many channels allow colors.
I don't know why this should open for more flood. If they wanna flood for urls they already are, and the colors are not making it more interesting for the flooders.
There are channels that doesn't allow public away. It's kickban.
I don't know how mIRC colors work, but if mIRC got 54 colors then the new colors would turn out black for other clients. That is a way to make it.
This color issue isn't that much of hard work to add for mIRC?

you still haven't explained why you want more colors. as I mentioned in the other thread (what were you thiunkinbg starting another one anyway?), making more colors available serves little purpose, and especuially when you're moving towards full RGB support, the human eye cannot possibly distinguish between that many colors.

I'd like to see more colours and there's no real reason not to add the support given that other clients have already done so. While this would not necessarily mean sending any more colours through IRC, the GUI could certainly use more than the consecutive 16 we've been stuck with for the last millenium.

While I, too, would like access to more colors for my own use when I display different things, you are making a faulty assumption.
You cannot possibly tell what your color choices will display on my screen. I can assure you that what you see will definitely not be what I see. I've altered the default colors (multiple times, actually, using different color schemes)...and none of them use the default colors (barring the mIRC Classic scheme). Some of them don't even have the same basic color for a certain number...6 might be a green instead of a purple.
Since that is true, no matter what colors you type, I won't see what you do, no matter how many additional colors we got access to in some future version.
