I pressed a link to a .jpg file and after that I started spamming the same url to every channel I was in. Now all my friends laugh at me, but are still unable to help me. How do I stop it?

I appreciate any help you can offer. I'm quite desperate now.

it sounds like you got an irc related virus where you downlaoded a file to mirc's direcotyr and everytime somebody joins after you, you message them. Try www.nohack.net

Try '/timer' - and see if any tiimers running.
If, then do:
/timer<blah> off

examples:
/timer1 off
/timerViRuS off

I don't really know if people are available, to make hidden timers in mIRC, But else it should be there, if it's mIRC's timer function used.

Otherwise try disabling the DDE Server, Which the "infected"-file might be using.

Set DDE Server off by using: /ddeserver off

You might also try running 2-3 virus scans using the resources in this thread.

Remember, never ever click on URLs that people tell you to go to, unless it's something that is blatantyl safe (like www.microsoft.com or www.mirc.com). Anything else (free web hosting sites especially, such as geocities/freewebs) are not safe for you to click.

Also remember:

- NEVER accept files from people on IRC. Only accept files from trusted friends, 'trusted' meaning you've known them for months if not years, not because they've been nice to you for a few hours.

- NEVER type suspicious things that people tell you to type, especially if they contain //write $decode or any other long form of what appears to be a jumble of letters and numbers.

- ALWAYS have an antivirus installed on your computer. If they have auto-protect features (out of the above list I know AVG does) then have it enabled.

- ALWAYS have the latest updates from www.windowsupdate.com.

- ALWAYS have the latest version of your software. mIRC is an important one to have updated to avoid any exploits that may be found. You can always get the most up to date version at www.mirc.com/get.html.

Stay safe, and happy chattin smile

Regards,

Mentality/Chris
