Forums mIRC Help IE Crashes When I hit a irc:// link

for some reason when i click on an irc hyperlink or enter irc:// in my browser, my IE Crashes and Mirc doesnt even open. Any help is appreciate thx.

Alt+O >> IRC >> Catcher. Check both boxes under 'Chat Links'. If they are already checked, uncheck them, close the options dialog, open it again and recheck them. Then try the irc link again, and I hope it will work...

unfortuently this did not work.

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Internet Explorer.

2. Make sure you have all available Windows updates.

3. Make sure you have the latest version of mIRC.

Make sure your mIRC directory is "normal" - i.e. it's not in a locked folder or anything like that. Most popular directory is C:\Program Files\mIRC or C:\mIRC. If you don't know the mIRC directory you can type //echo $mircdir whilst in mIRC to find it out.

If you've done the above, then it may be an IE issue. Try Microsoft's Support site and use the various methods to obtain assistance

I too was having the same problem, and just like you, it totally came out of nowhere. I have been doing nonstop research for about 6 hours now to solve the problem, and I came across this.

Basically, we have been having this problem because of Spyware. Normally i am very good about it, and I do Ad-Aware and Spybot once a week. But this one slipped by, and it is the source of our bad irc link problems.
