Why not include a built in engine for MTS theme makers and if warranted an editor as well.

I would like to see a better way of editing the theme, but rather than MTS, which seems to be slowly dying, something similar to what xChat and other clients use would be better in my opinion.

MTS isn't any close to an official protocol, and IMHO mIRC doesn't need it at all as it limits things a lot. What mIRC needs IMHO was already suggested here, anyway..

I believe X-Chat uses GTK-2 to handle themes, which is good, but not easily integrated with Windows.

The obvious point is that people can share themes easily. Why do you think they went to all that trouble of making a standard?

Let's get this straight, I am one of the elite mIRC users who like the client to look like a terminal window and be as plain as possible. I have a firm belief that anything containing color is unneeded and lame. When I see a rainbow in the sky, I think "How useless and lame".

Notwithstanding, I can still appreciate how some people would desire such a feature. I can quite understand the logic of adopting an existing theme protocol. I can appreciate the benefits of having it natively supported, Rather than crummy scriptz. Why am I able to comprehend all this? Because I thought about it.

The people who use themes in mIRC probably use this theme standard already. It makes sense that mIRC should choose something similair to MTS, So that people can easily share themes and use their existing ones. I see no good reason in this entire thread why mIRC should not adopt MTS.

I see no reason why it should. MTS, to my recollection, was something that mIRCscripts.org promoted and if my memory serves me correctly they had (still have?) a section devoted to it. The plain and simple facts remain though, the S in MTS may (to some) represented the word 'standard' (I thought it meant 'system') but a standard is one thing that MTS is not. Being popular does not make something a standard. Most scripts released by authors for use by other chatters don't contain MTS, rather using a static or custom designed theme or layout.

Don't get me wrong here, I am not making any representation as to quality, usefulness or fitness for use of any particular theme manager whether it be MTS or whatever else is out there. What I am saying is why should mIRC adopt it? Given that not all mIRC users use it demonstrates only one thing, MTS isn't wanted by all or even a slight majority.

That's true, but I was suggesting something similar not that mIRC should copy xChat's theme editor, that was just the best example I could think of at the time.
