Forums Connection Issues Unsteady dcc speeds with Win XP

I've just installed Windows XP.
Now i've encountered the following problem with IRC.
When I do a dcc download, the speed is very unsteady.
I've got DSL 768/128. The speed changes from 0kb/s up
to 60kb/s. A few seconds very fast then again very slow.
Inbetween it actually seems to stop for a few seconds.

This problem was not present with my former OS which
was win98se so I guess it's something to do with Windows
XP network settings. Any ideas how to fix this?

Win XP comes with an integrated firewall and bandwidth limiter so check these setting, it's maybe there.

If you're downloading, your uploader may have some connex troubles, your ADSL connex doesn't mean you'll always download at 96Ko/s.

(I assume you got optimized mIRC DCC settings, like packet size, fast send active with /fsend and no DCC scripts that could affect your up/downloads).

Just to add to the above, Windows XP enable/disable instructions are available here.

You also might try doing a Search as DCC has been covered at just about every angle! Expand to 'All Forums' and expand the date range to 'All Posts' for best results.

"Quality of service" internet settings (which take these 20% mentioned) were actually disabled. I turned them on and it seems to work much better now. Maybe Microsoft did something useful at last. ;-)

btw I did a search but didn't find anything. I guess I didn't
have the right keywords.

just so you know, when doing a search here, be sure to set it to "all forums" and expand the date range to get the best results. Use search terms like either dcc or speed or download rather than something like unsteady speed. glad you worked the prob out

How did you exactly solve your unsteady speed in the mirc dcc?

I use win xp and I have the same problem, my download speed isn't steady. it keeps going up and down.
