You can also try limiting your /list search. Because on the bigger networks there are thousands of channels (type
/lusers to see the amount of opened channels) it can cause a heavy load on the server and your connection. Some very slow connections can actually disconnet (for example, if you're on dialup).
To limit a search, use
/list *topic here* - For example, if you want to chat about football, do
/list *football* and it will list all channels with the word 'football' in them. Searching for something such as *channels about football* will not work, try to limit it to one word.
More can be done with the /list command. Type
/help /list whilst in mIRC to see some more options available
