Hi... if you do a whois to a user who is in a channel whose name finishes with a bracket ) ] or { and you double-click on the channel, you'll join a new channel whose name has not the bracket in the end... For example:
MrX stays in a channel called #brackets)
I do a whois to him, the raw 319 lists the channels, I double-click on #brackets) but I join the channel #brackets
sorry if my english is incorrect, but I'm italian smile
Bye

Yup, I get this. mIRC 6.12 / XP Pro.

Probably some techy explanation for this *waits for it* :P

I'm pretty sure it's deliberate. When mIRC sees a channel name has a bracket on the end of it it assumes that the bracket (or in fact any punctuation character) isn't part of the channel but part of the text which surrounds it. This behaviour is more likely to be the desired effect than actually joing a channel with the bracket on the end.

For example if mIRC sees the word #hello) it's far more likely that it's part of a sentence like Ted just joined (he's also in #hello) where the ) isn't meant as part of the channel name than it is that the channel ends with a punctuation character.

Spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, and stupid comments are intentional.

That would indeed be the reson, from what i can see. Perosnally, i think there should be an addition to the right click menu. I.e. in cases like your example, #hello), have:

Join Channel
Join Alternative #Hello)

Something with a "before" and "after" parsing for puntuation, etc for cases like this where it is intentional.
