Forums General Discussion excessive directories and taskbar trouble

whilst using search (winXP) i found 21 directories named: "temporary directory N for mIRC", also when i start my pc 10 copies of mirc open in my taskbar but all of my other programs wont even go into the taskbar, i know this isnt the original safe mirc doing this, but does anyone know where i can find help on this, i deleted the temp directories but i want to fix my taskbar, anyone know?

Have you checked for viruses?

You can do a free online scan with Trendmicro. You can also download two very good (and highly recommended) trojan scanners. Both of them are free -> The Cleaner and SwatIT. A free virus scanner is available from Grisoft called AVG.

If no trojans/viruses or any other infections are found, try reinstalling mIRC. Make sure you go to Start > My Computer > Add/Remove programs and uninstall mIRC first. Before you redownload/install you might want to check if mIRC still starts up by doing a reboot.

Look for unwanted things being loaded along with windows. They usually like to hide here, out of the view of the user. If they are there, then look at the path they point to. If they point to a registry key, then open regedit, and browse to the key and look up thr path it points to.

i should of added more info..

ive tried housecall, mcaffee stinger, avg, the cleaner, spybot s&d, swat-it, norton 2002 & 2003 and mcaffee's free online scan.

searching for "mIRC" finds no .exe file but only a few mirc.txt's.
Inside 1 of these mirc.txt's it has several names of common dialers in a list.
spybot s&d removed the dialers themselves, so only the list in the text file remains, im not sure if im still infected but i think it may of tweaked my taskbar or general XP settings.
3 keyloggers and a hijacker were found as well.
i know this isnt really the place to ask but i thought maybe someone here knew of a new mirc trojan or a trojan that uses mirc's name to throw me off track.
it also disabled internet explorer a week ago and ive only just fixed that.

tried msconfig, looked in AUTOEXEC.bat and HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run.
if theres anything else that decides what runs on startup please say

ive just noticed javascript no longer works either..
does anyone know which file javascript uses and where i can get it?
