For some reason my my computer will freeze up several times for a few seconds each time and the internet will die, only fixable by restarting my cable modem.

As far as i can tell, this is when mIRC is running.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if at all this problem is caused by running mIRC ... what you can do is download the latest mirc from here , uninstall the current one you are using and do a clean new install of the lastest version..
make sure you are not running any scripts/addons ..
if the problem persists with the new install of the clean mirc without any scripts then i am sure its not the mirc , has to be something else ,
still if you are not satisfied ... check with the bugg report section fo the Message Board ...
and may God not rain in london today ...

if you have reinstalled clean latest mirc then i can say that its not mirc thats causing the crash ... check your cable modem update its driver prolly ... or your service provider ...

does this happen when you are chatting, or only when you are downloading files?

possible causes:
-scripts/addons
-speed patches
-your provider may have limits on bandwidth usage
-you may be trying to do too much at once
-use mIRC to chat

since it also happened on another client, im inclined to strongly suspect your provider has some limits they stick in the small print, many do have bandwidth limits.

try the thread on 10053, here

there are a lot of things that can cause that error, obviously including if your provider does indeed have some restrictions.

you mite check on www.practically networked.com to see if your provider is mentioned on any of their forums/resources
