I know I will receive harsh replies for this, but I am one person who would prefer a plain and simple mIRC, with most of the options removed, availible. Something like the first version ever put out, but without the bugs. Something that has enough simplicity without scripting and options, that it wouldn't have any vulnerabilities, but it wouldn't take forever to set up all the settings in today's mIRC. I know I will get harsh replies for it stating the the current mIRC is good enough, but I know there are others out there wanting what I want.

well, who prevents you from using those old versions? maybe the fact that you like 6.03 much more?;b
And all I need now is intellectual intercourse, a soul to dig the hole much deeper

There's a few that want a stripped down version of mIRC but I doubt it will happen because the time spent on reducing enough code to make it work, yet be 'light' would probably make it prohibitive. One feature I would like to see removed though is the URL catcher. I am sure this function does on occasions contribute to the massive trojan problem that exists on many networks. People turn it on thinking "Oh what a timesaver, I don't have to CLICK ONCE just to see a website that is typed on channel" yet when someone spams them (ON JOIN) they wonder why they are then infected with a trojan even before the website loads. To some the URL catcher is handy though the dangers, to most, are well hidden. In finishing, I don't really see the benefit of a 'light' version of mIRC. Functions can always be turned off and in this day and age downloading 1.3MB every 4 months isn't such a big deal. mIRC has that hidden beauty of being as simple or as complex as you like it to be from the word 'go'. Apart from nickname and choosing a network, it's just about all laid on for us. I for one would like to see mIRC develop more. Anyway, I'm not shooting you down, just giving my view.

>that it wouldn't have any vulnerabilities, Doesn't mean the vulnerabilities would be gone, any program that is more than simply outputting "Hello World" onto the screen has bugs, thats just a fact. Some may occur once every 30 years, but they are still there. Removing most of mIRCs features will not necessarily make it more stable. But anyway, I've been using mIRC for about 3-4 years and it is never crashed on me a single time so I don't exactly see how it is unstable/vulnerable now...
>but it wouldn't take forever to set up all the settings in >today's mIRC Maybe it is just me, but to get mIRC up and running for the first time took me about 15 minutes.

The old ones don't work, otherwise I'd be using them. They have too many bugs, but I want to use them because they are basically featureless. Less options to go through and stuff.

Well it's not like you have to look through the options. And in case your next reply is "well I do because the defaults aren't right for me" then I'll just point out that a cut-down version of mIRC would just use the defaults anyway except with no way to change them.

Then why hasn't Khaled first the script dump bug? It's not just I, others have complained about it too before this board was lost.

There is a semi-rare bug. All the scripts and aliases loaded into mIRC or whatever are removed from the mirc.ini file. This isn't a script or anything doing it, I know better than to do something so stupid as to do that. And I think another person had the same problem.

It's a little rarer than semi-rare. I'd say rare as rocking horse droppings because I have never heard of this happening in any version.
I've released full scripts for the last 8 or 9 versions and have never had a complaint about files unloading themselves.

I say semi-rare for myself. For others, it's probably extremely rare. And it probably has to do with a combination of things. Like the Operating System, how the computer shuts down and stores things, and so on. I think it is actually triggered when mIRC is opened. And I think it is triggered when there are many scripts loaded at once. But I'm not going to discuss it anymore since I have no way of troubleshooting it.

Once it's loaded and accessible from the script editor, there it should stay. I just loaded a file into mIRC then shutdown the computer by pulling the cord out of the wall. I then rebooted it and the file was still loaded.
$os == Win 2000 $version == 6.03
Perhaps the condition of your machine does play a part. If so that can't be attributed to the way mIRC is made. Driving a car around on flat tyres doesn't make it a lousy car does it?

Well, it's weird. Cause it shouldn't have on two of my computers, but it did. Even though I did copy it over, but it's not a virus or trojan I know. It does it on start-up of mIRC I think. I'm not going to even bother trying to figure it out, since I can just back-up the mirc.ini file.

What does this bug have to do with having a stripped-down version of mIRC though?

It's not going to be the script if the user writes his/her/its own scripts and aliases. Plus the duration of it happening is in like the months. It's like, suddenly, one day, one month, maybe 3 times a year or less, it happens, and you notice it happening once you get on IRC and your scripts arent doing what they should be doing, and you hit alt-R, and they're gone, except I think script.ini is there sometimes, can't remember.

It is a bug, I had several files loaded, none of them had any on START or on LOAD events, it is just a random bug.
