Apparently, I have some kind of trojan or virus that is
causing problems winthin windows 98. Some of these
problems include random errors/shutdowns of IE6 - SP1, not
allowing installation/opening of mIRC chat client versions
6.1 and up, and aloas not allowing opening of random *.exe
or installation files.

I downloaded a couple of virus scanners/deletors, and only
one out of four of their install files would actually open
and install. The Anti-Virus Software that did work, found
2/3 viruses/trojans and deleted them automatically. I
thought that this would fix the problem, but it didn't.

If you have any idea of wat virus this could be, how to
get rid of it/fix it, or any other information, that would
be welcome.

Thank You.

did you make a note of the names of what was found? if so, research them and check to be sure they are totally gone.

I dont have any idea which could be doing what you describe, but i would try some of the free online scanners, like housecall at www.trendmicro.com since some of the nasties out there can essentially disable onboard scanners.
