The DCC exploit which 6.12 fixed was sent though the server.

blocking the dcc exploit on the server side would require an ircd recompile and restart, something that large networks hate doing.

It's really kinda silly to work around client bugs on the server side anyway

As far as I know that still takes changes in the ircd which cannot be simply added on. And all that because 1 program has a problem that will be fixed in the next release? It's not worth the effort. Even if you are right and it's a simple matter of writing a few lines of code, and load that as an addon type thing, it's still not worth the effort to write the code for the limited time it's used.

+m on channel and silence in private ? crazy

I think what it is not enough .. How about some spam filters ? Or filter the exploit out ? Why i never see that features in some ircd ?

Actually, EFnet has a spam filter, of sorts. Users must enable usermode +g on themselves and the server will block incoming messages (except channel ones), DCC's and (I think) CTCP's. Very useful feature smile

For the exact reason I gave -- it's a waste of time writing the code when the problem is fixed with the next release of mIRC.

Hmm .. Interestingly what the ircd coders have to do if they not have time for create a filter ? I use the undernet network .. And all changes what i see in 3 years is +x flag for users(to hide ip of the register users) +r for channels(only register users can join) and a update of the undernet x bot .. That is all .. How much code is that ? Maybe i need to change the network confused

Check out the options to the /ignore command. Same capability, and configurable, exists in your client.
