Forums mIRC Help Download Speed

My download speed seems to be slow, I have mirc 6.03 with invision 2.0, ADSL 512. When i download a file in irc it only runs at about 2k, but when i,m on the internet i get about 50k. I have had some people in irc send me files and said it should me much faster, My isp said it might be port settings but they can't help me. If someone could help me that would be great.

Just to make it clear, just because your internet can go that speed doesn't mean the user sending it can. You want to check and make sure the person you're downloading from has a speed that is capable of reaching the speeds you intend.
