I would like to sort the following by nick name :

[00:00] Eva-25!~shicap@Lhe-1224.net
[00:01] Canddice!~Meoww@999.142.105.27
[00:33] Anna-18!~belu@999.153.253.137
[00:58] Monicca!~Ols@999.154.238.78
[04:33] jenifer20!lan132@999.179.148.185
[05:23] Lilly-!yy@999.73.120.160

How can I sort text starting at a column other than colomn 1?

TIA

might not be the fastest way, but I'd open a window (-s) and aline $gettok(line,2-,32) to it since the timestamps aren't important anyway.
