There's a few keygens out there for mIRC. It's a bit silly because it would cost the user more in the time it takes to make a keygen than it would take to register mIRC. Only difference would be is that he wouldn't have to suffer the nag function anymore.

That said, I'd never download such a thing and I recommend that no-one else does - keygens often come with other nasties like trojans.

Not likely but it's certainly possible....

Judging by the nick used in what you pasted, the user is an oper or impersonating one, either way his integrity leaves a bit to answer for, considering that he is distributing a file that is patently illegal.

Those keygens out there can easily be working keygens with viruses in them. Kind of two fold.

Said sarcastically to get point across, not to be offensive in any way: Gee, how many people would consider submitting a keygen to an antivirus company in the first place? The antivirus software isn't psychic or anything, it has to start somewhere. It is highly possible to submit an old file to a company, and find out it's detrimental.

Khaled should note to ban that network/server from being reached in future versions of mirc smile

The thing most people don't realize is the actual creators of such 'cracks', exploits, etc. are not doing it for the destructive value of the creation (at least not in all cases), but the technical challenge it presents. I'm not commenting on the morality of that, but it is something similar to how a scientist could get a real kick out of working toward building an atomic weapon, not focussing on the terror it creates when it is used.

If khaled banned a network from mIRC usage, at least for this reason, he'd have to ban a lot of them. Plus, this would just give the people who write the keygens another challenge... to connect to banned servers.

Finally, I think it is important to note that this is a similar problem in many areas (some even outside the realm of computers). RIAA vs. MP3, MPAA vs. DeCSS, cops vs. robbers, encrypted/secure vs. crowbars and brute force.

It might be a good move if we all could come to some sort of compromise?

If you were to trace where the problem is, 99% of the world's wealth lies in the hands of a few people, so to speak. I'm not saying Khaled in one of those few people. I'm saying there are people above him that are siphoning off most of the profit.

It's not Khaled's fault that mirc is being cracked but he could make mirc so it's not so easy to crack, that is if he wants to retain profit and prevent people from stealing his product.

It goes beyond the respect issue of paying for other people's products. Why people can't afford to pay for mIRC is a bigger issue. But that's getting into economics, too off the subject.
