I've just installed Sophos Virus Checker and on scaning my PC (Win XP) it reported that mirc.exe contains Troj/IRCBot-c trojan, and disabled access to the file.

So I deleted the file and re-downloaded mIRC from one of the UK servers. On installation Sophos reports the same Trojan and denies access to the file. Same with a download from Texas.

Is mIRC infected, or is this a problem with Sophos?

Chris

using the search feature here with Sophos as search term(usually best to set it to All Forums and expand the date range) will show you some posts that explain that Sophos has stated this was a false positive and they recently released an IDE to correct that. Its a good idea to get into the habit of checking the makers website frequently to be sure any virus scanner is up to date.

I emailed Sophos and they responded pretty quickly , explaining they put out the fix for that very recently.
