I would like to sugest that mIRC included a feature that would allow people to log out of their users [on Windows 2000/XP/NT?] and still keep their nicks online... somewhat make mIRC run on background as a service so that when people relog on they could resume their IRC activities.

Of course this would also add an extra option to the Connect dialog in the sense that people could 'connect' to an existing mIRC process.

as for the top one, windows XP has a "switch users" feature. When enabled, you can "log off" the user (while not closing their programs) and login as a new user. So in actuality you have two logged in, one active. As for being a service, that could be useful, as for like a bot or such. Although, then u'll have people whom will exploit it to make mirc trojans run in the background as well. Also, there is a windrop bot (much faster also) that you can run as a bot (if that is your intent).

Actually i was thinking more on the line of the detach feature in the BitchX IRC client. The switch user feature in XP is too RAM consuming and i was thinking this feature in mIRC could be used in systems with many users that has a considerable uptime. Like in an enterprise. People login, start their mIRC [for use in their breaks of course] and then, when they go home, they send mIRC to background and log off their user. this way, when they came back the other day, their nick would still be in the net, and ready to use just by 'reattaching' the process...

again, if it gives mirc the ability to run in the background, it makes mirc that much more a choice to exploit. As if having mirc run on computers in the background with another prgram wasn't enough, give them the intergrated ability to do so.

An emulation of the detach console under Windows would not use any less RAM than would fast user switching under XP, because it would basically hook into the FUS system.
