hello!

i've came across such bug:
starting version 7.83, writing some unicode symbols changes the font just for that symbol...
i have fixedsys as default and it does contain and shows symbols like ąčęėįšųū fine in that fixedsys style in earlier versions of mirc.

now the interesting part, that when the message is sent, tall the symbols, including 'offending' ones are all shown in fixedsys again, that is in chat window!

i wonder what's going on?

This is called font-linking. mIRC will do its best to display characters using the font that you have chosen, however if the font (especially an old non-unicode font like FixedSys) cannot display certain characters, mIRC will ask Windows for a font that can optimally display them and then alternates between fonts where necessary when rendering the text. It will do its best to revert back to your chosen font when possible. However, the method for how this is handled depends on the feature. mIRC's text display has its own method, described above. Windows editboxes/controls have different levels of support for this, depending on the type of control, its age, and so on. The behaviour also varies across different versions of Windows. Support for font-linking has been in mIRC for a decade or two. There have been no changes to how this works in recent versions of mIRC.

thanks for a detailed insight into the issue!
well, i don't know, i'm back at v7.82 and it displays fine as in chat prompt, so in chat window.
i've no idea why MSwindows decided to treat that chat prompt encoding differently in v7.83 and v7.84, but that's what it is.. O_o
