Forums Bug Reports * Error creating window - Possible Bug

I know almost nobody would even be in so many servers/channels in total, but I think this is a bug.
Looks like mIRC has a issue creating more than a 190 windows in total on this test.


One instance of mIRC, my primary copy I use

15 Server windows (14 connected)
43 Channels
23 @Windows



Another instance of mIRC, running as portable, on another hard-drive.

2 Server windows (1 connected, using freenode, since it allows users to connect up to 120 channels)
106 Channels
1 Channels list


Now, when I try "/join ##testing" on the portable, I get this error below in the status window of the server.

* Error creating window
##testing @KindOne_
##testing End of /NAMES list.

I have also done "/help" and it crashes mIRC sometimes.

Both copies return this data, (script numbers are different)

There is a limit to the number of windows that can be opened at one time in Windows. I am guessing that you've reached that limit. There are a couple posts from 1-2 years ago regarding this if you want to try and find them. But afaik, this is a Windows limitation and not something mIRC has control of.

Np. I had to adjust my search to get the right words to find what I wanted. It helped that I remembered the posts so had some idea of what to look for.

Just as a note, though... Although there is a limit on the number of windows meaning that isn't a bug, I do think that /help causing mIRC to crash should be considered a bug. Even though it's almost guaranteed to be related to that limit, it should handle that error without crashing mIRC.
