/timer -p does not "silence" output; it postpones it. Perhaps the most accurate way to describe it is to say that it suspends (your word) the timer's ability to trigger its command. It does not pause the countdown, nor was that the original intent of the command.

Honestly, the only reason you all are getting your panties in a bunch over this is because of the word "pause". Get over it -- it's just a word. Perhaps it would have been better to say that the "-p" switch stands for "postpone" to avoid confusion.

I suppose next you all will complain about how /kick doesn't actually have anything to do with your foot.
