i've tried setting this up before, even started writting a component that would sort imitate the behaviour, but it never seems to function quite as required...

The idea is this : You have your home network with 2 or 3 computers, one of them a server for the rest of the internet, so opening up mIRC on that computer, and keeping it there, to be able to open up mIRC on your laptop and have it connect to that one as a leaf, thus keeping only 1 connection open to the server, but being able to use the client on either computer or even in both at the same time given the need

i've been toying with this idea mostly to be able to keep centralized logs since i keep switching between server, desktop and laptop all of them with a mIRC open all connected to the same networks and same channels, but the laptop with i use most of the time simply needs to be off at times and the logs on it are nowhere near as reliable as those on the server

If all you're looking for are logs, just leave mIRC on the main computer running 24/7 and log only from there. As long as you keep it connected in the same channels, it will maintain logs for all of your computers. In any case, you can't connect with multiple nicks (i.e. clients) using a single connection.

There is already software that can do this, and is probably a lot better at it than mIRC could be. It's called a bnc, and you can set one up on your home network.

For that matter, why not use VNC and gain full access to the other desktops?
