I actually don't know if it ever worked.

I was in mIRC today messing and I realized my internal beep was no longer working.

I know it's worked for this script, NoNameScript, in the past. But I dunno if it ever has on my current install of Windows.

I currently use Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Any ideas?

The windows mixer is up, when I try to test the internal beep setting in sound options I get nothing.

You probably don't have a file set up to play when there's a beep. It's something like ding.wav I believe, though you could use any sound you want. Just change your sound scheme so that there's a sound there and it will probably work. That and make sure mIRC sounds are enabled.

If you have the "internal beep" option enabled, mIRC will play a sound that is stored in mIRC itself, so there is no need for a separate sound file. I just tested mIRC v6.35 under Windows 7 32bit and it played the internal beep sound without any problem. If you disable the internal beep option and then test the beep sound, does it work? You should hear the default Windows sound in this case. I cannot think of a reason why it would not play, unless there is a specific issue with mIRC playing internal sounds and Windows 7 64bit, however I do not recall anyone else having reported that before.

I set it to use PC speaker, and it makes the Windows sound when it's supposed to.

When I switch back to internal beep...nothing.

I even tried running mIRC.exe with no scripts...and the internet beep refuses to work.

I also downloaded 6.35 and installed it to a new Program Files folder. Thinking maybe the install was bad. This is a fairly fresh install of Windows 7 as well, which is why I just suddenly noticed it when someone was Querying me and I did not hear it.

Anything else I can do to try to find the source Mr. Mardam-Bey?

I run 7 Ultimate. I'm downloading WinXP mode to test it on there, to see if it's an issue with the installer...or what..

I can only guess that the way mIRC stores sound files internally is not working correctly under Windows 7 64bit. Hopefully someone else who has Windows 7 64bit will be able to test this to see if they can reproduce it to confirm the issue. The only option in that case would be for you to turn off the internal beep option to make mIRC use your default system sound. If it does turn out to be an mIRC issue, I should have it fixed in the next release.

Windows 7 64, mIRC 6.35 and internal beep works fine here.

I've figured it out and I'm unsure who's at fault here. Khaled probably could shed some light on it.

I am a PC Gamer so I have a set of Creative USB Headphones (+Mic). The internal beep does not work when I have them set as my output device.

When I switch my output device to speakers the internal beep works fine.

I don't know if it's an issue with mIRC or the driver for the headset. As the headset seems to work fine for everything else.

while i have not experienced this problem myself, I do know a friend who has, its the driver... He indicated that the manuf. did not yet have a fix for the problem so you will have to switch output when your using something other than the game stuff. sorry.

You may not know the answer,

But what exactly is causing the issue?

I am simply curious.

That's probably something you have to ask the manufacturer considering it's a driver problem.

If you want an educated guess, I'll bet that the "internal beep" function in mIRC uses a low-level PC-speaker-related API to beep, and I'll guess that your driver does not implement that API.

Well,

I was more or less trying to figure out how mIRC generates the beep-sound.

I could probably assume from there.
