Every once in a while (not on a regular schedule or anything), mIRC will drop the connection for no reason, either giving Connect Reset by Peer or just (Quit: ) as the reason.

I connect to the IRC server locally, and it happens when there should be no other traffic occuring - so it's not being overloaded or anything..

Any rare chance someone has some ideas?

You can read some info on disconnection errors, including peer, in the thread here

Honestly, the occasional disconnect isn't at all unusual, and there really isnt much you can do about them, especially that annoying peer. If you are getting disconnected a LOT, then start to be concerned and look into possible causes.

My theory on Peer is that its really a nasty lurking varmit that waits until the absolute worst possible moment, having lulled you into a false sense of security, and pounces. While you shriek, it runs away laffing. Alternatively, i insist it is due to not making the proper sacrifices to the IRCGods. Of course, i also insist puters arent inanimate objects, but are in fact life forms designed to promote lunacy.
