It wont let me connect to any servers

Are you using a router?
If so, you'll have to open ports so that the DNS requests match both forwards and backwards.
I'm not sure what ports you'll have to open, as my router configured automatically when I told it to allow IRC connections.

How does the above information show that you can't connect? There should be a message that says "disconnected", if not, its still attempting to connect, you need to wait.
