When double-clicking a URL that contains Unicode, a wrong URL is opened in the web browser (at least in Opera).

It seems that I can't use Unicode in this board to exemplify, and only Opera seems to copy links in their Unicode form, so Opera might be required for reproducing the issue... Using Opera, one could copy one of the article links here:

http://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/

Then paste it in mIRC and double-click.

Thanks!

Unicode would/should be urlencoded in links anyway (as defined by the http protocol), which should be parsed just fine in mIRC. Meaning, you should never have an actual unicode character in a link; it should be urlencoded. The links on that wiki page are properly urlencoded for me.

If anything, this would be an opera issue, since it only breaks there...

Even if it goes against the standard, I'd say it's ultimately the better solution. Imagine that when someone links you to Wikipedia, you get this:

http://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%90%D7%9C%D7%91%D7%A8%D7%98_%D7%90%D7%99%D7%99%D7%A0%D7%A9%D7%98%D7%99%D7%99%D7%9F

Instead of this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Einstein

Even if you ignore the excessive length, you can't see the article's name by reading the URL, which goes against wiki's nature.

Regardless, it would still be nice if mIRC didn't break these "Opera links". smile

I just found out this issue might affect Firefox users adversely...

Since this board doesn't seem to support Unicode, here's a page that does. Doing what the page says (WRT mIRC) might mess up the current open tabs in Firefox.

I realize it must be Mozilla's fault, but I still find it frustrating in general that I can't give out such links to people on IRC. frown
