Previously this worked great, at near the hd speed limit. I use this technique to partly copy files that are corrupt near the end. I can then resume from a better source and correct the whole file.

I've recently changed my ADSL modem to a router, and while DCC transfers still work fine, sending files to myself now goes through my ISP - i.e. limited to my maximum upload, some 30KB/s.

Is there any way I can make mIRC aware of my 'local loop' once again?

Thanks in advance.

If you tell mIRC to use the Local IP address resolution in Options, Local Info, then it will have your local (LAN) IP address instead of your Internet IP address, and you should be able to send locally. But you'd need to change it back before trying to send to anyone else.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately when I connect to a server my LAN ip is overwritten, even if "get local host" and "get ip address" are unchecked. I suspect I wouldn't be able to log on to an IRC server if it didn't change my IP.

if you do /localinfo -h
you should then be able to DCC yourself but you'll have to do /localinfo -u before you will be able to DCC anyone else.

You can also set your IP & Host manually by specifying the host and/or ip.
/localinfo host ip

No go I'm afraid, I get this after setting the -u mode:

"The file could not be sent: The IP address specified is not your own"

I think I'll use ftp server/client to do this file truncating trick from now on, this still seems to work fast despite now being on the router.

Thanks anyway smile
