My irc used to take ages to connect (2mins) to a channel, untill i updated the firmware on my router - it then connected in 2secs.
About 2 weeks ago it started to take ages to connect again, but only seems to do it on quakenet.

heres the status msg:

Connecting to de.quakenet.org (6667)
*** Looking up your hostname
01de.quakenet.org
*** Checking Ident
de.quakenet.org
*** No ident response
*** Couldn't look up your hostname

and yes my ident is enabled, i tryed forwarding port 113 on the router but still no joy.

any 1 know wots happening?

my m8 has exectlay the same set up as me but he connects in secs... crazy

did u have to reset ur router possibly? or are u entirly sure ur forwarding port 113 to the correct machine?? ..... i know it sounds dumb to ask it but hey it is possible

another thing might be to set ur machine to dmz and then try to connect . if it connects correctly then it is definatly a router problem

Another possibility (less likely) is that your ISP has setup a firewall. Some ISPs do this, and it prevents you from running an ident server unfortunately.

yeah. i tryed DMZ (plus the port forwarding was set up to the correct machine) But u have my lan ip assigned by DCPH and it seems to give me a different ip every now and then: ie 192.186.1.101 or 192.168.1.104....

The thing is it used to work just fine and i didnt change a thing and it stopped. As a said b4 my m8 has exactly the same set up as me: modem ---- router ---- pc.

And his works fine! i dont have a fw enabled and was thinking of setting factory defaults for the router.

cheers for the replys grin

other possibilities: problem with the ircd or server. have you tried different servers or even a diff network? If any others can get an identd response, then you know it isnt on your end.

Reverse DNS is controlled by your Internet Provider. Basically it means the hostname that your IP resolves to.

it looks like that time it got ur ident response? possibly there isnt anythign u can do but if ur dns isnt reverse resolving then starts to resolve it could have been a resolved issue and u cant do anythign about it ...... but really what does it matter how long it takes as long as u get where ur going?

A MAC address has nothing to do with it. They need to fix their reverse DNS record (PTR) for your IP.
